Whether you're cruising on two wheels or driving on four, these essential tips will help you navigate the wet season with confidence and keep your vehicles in prime condition.
Motorcycle Maintenance Tips For Monsoon
Beginning of monsoon season brings excitement to many bikers as they love riding a motorcycle in the rain. It is important to be extra cautious while riding a bike in the rain and take special care of your motorcycle as otherwise it may result in vehicle breakdown. Riding a motorcycle on a wet road in the rain is more challenging than riding a motorcycle on a bumpy road in the dry season. So, here we are with some tips that will help you.
1. Cover the motorcycle or park in a shed
Who likes to sit on a wet seat? No one! So, if you are not riding the bike then don’t keep it in the rain. Cover it or park it in a shed or waterproof bike cover. Avoid parking motorcycle in rains rain as water deposition in various parts lead to long-term issues such as rusting and electric failures.
2. Check your motorcycle tires
During the monsoon season, the roads become so slippery and hence becomes important to keep your tires in proper shape. If the rubber has worn out, you should replace it before riding in the rainy season. Ensure to check the tire pressure as it is of equal importance in providing better grip.
3. Clean your motorcycle regularly
In the rainy season layers of mud will hold water and would result in fast rusting of the exposed parts. To avoid mud and muck being stuck to motorcycle, spray water and wipe off the mud on tires, rims, foot stand.
4. Keep the chain clean and lubricated
Bike chains are vulnerable to rust, mud, and dirt during rain. Keep it well lubricated so that rain doesn’t get on the surface of the chain. With Gulf’s innovative and active cleansing technology, Gulf motorcycle chain lubricant and cleaner helps you get the most out of your bike so that you can enjoy every ride.
5. Brake System check
Brakes are affected the most during monsoon and can lose their efficiency. So, before going on a ride check motorcycle’s brakes to avoid skidding. Ensure to flush and replace brake fluid as per manufacturer’s recommendations.
6. Regular motorcycle servicing
Check up your motorcycle on regular basis with appropriate change of engine oil, replacement of oil filter to avoid time and money spent on their inspection. Monitoring of coolant levels, leaks helps to ensure proper operation of radiator and cooling fan. Make sure that your tyres are properly inflated, and all the lights, levers and safety systems are working.
Car Maintenance Tips For Monsoon
The monsoon season is notorious for torrential downpours, resulting in flooded streets and treacherous driving conditions. By keeping your cars in good working condition and safe throughout the monsoon season, you may avoid costly repairs caused by the weather. So, here we are with some tips that will help you.
1. Cleaning and Drying
Keeping on top of your cleaning routine during the monsoon season is essential for keeping the filth, muck, and moisture at bay. Take essential measures to dry them thoroughly after washing to prevent corrosion and rust. Use clean, dry towels to wipe out everything from the exterior and interior to the engine and parts.
2. Tire Care
Tire tread depth and condition impact traction in wet conditions, so keep an eye on them periodically. Therefore, verify that the tire pressure meets the manufacturer’s specifications. You can invest in dedicated wet-weather tires for increased traction on slick roads. Check for cracks or other damage to the tire sidewalls and replace them if required.
3. Rain Proofing Measures
Use wax or sealer on painted surfaces to prevent water from penetrating your car. This adds a barrier against moisture and aids in keeping the car shiny. Rubber weather-stripping around the trunk, doors, and windows should be inspected for wear and replacement.
4. Brake and Suspension Maintenance
Brake pads, discs, and suspension parts should all be checked often. The monsoon might compromise both stopping power and control precision. However, brake performance may be improved by replacing worn brake pads and discs. Lubricate and grease the suspension parts to keep them from rusting and operating smoothly.
5. Windshield Maintenance
During the monsoon, your windshield may gather dirt and grime from the wet environment. Cleaning it regularly helps improve visibility and ensures your wipers function effectively. It's crucial to avoid running your wipers on a dry windshield as it can cause unnecessary wear and tear, and potentially damage the rubber blades.
6. Regular Car Servicing
Check up your car on regular basis with appropriate change of engine oil to ensure longevity of engine service. The cooling system should be flushed and refreshed according to recommended time intervals to avoid overheating of vehicle resulting in complete breakdown. Make sure that your tyres are properly inflated, and all the lights, levers and safety systems are working.
Conclusion
Taking proactive care of your motorcycle and car during the monsoon season ensures they remain reliable and safe in challenging weather conditions. Regular maintenance, from cleaning and drying to checking essential components like brakes and tires, helps prevent costly repairs and ensures optimal performance throughout the rainy season.
